Choosing Wedding Vows
Thu, 16 Aug 2012
Before a marriage is solemnised by or in the presence of an authorised Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant, not being a minister of religion of a recognised denomination, the authorised celebrant shall say to the parties, in the presence of the witnesses, the words:
"I am duly authorised by law to solemnise marriages according to law. Before you are joined in marriage in my presence and in the presence of these witnesses, I am to remind you of the solemn and binding nature of the relationship into which you are now about to enter. Marriage, according to the law in Australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life"
As your authorised Brisbane marriage celebrant I am able to provide you with some samples of vows from the more traditional to some less formal. Many couples choose to write their own vows, sometimes as a suprise to their partner until the wedding day.
The vows should be words expressing a heartfelt commitment to the change in your relationship to husband and wife. Many couples are very scared about speaking too much in public, for fear of making a mistake or having to remember long lengths of texts. The vows can be broken down into small sections that you can repeat after the celebrant or they can be written onto palm cards for you to read.
Thought and planning are the key to anything and with some thought about what you want to say to your partner and planning in finding the right words or phrases can mean that your vows will be intimate, personal and something to be treasured always.
I am an authorised celebrant based on the southside of Brisbane and I would love to work with you to deliver the ceremony of your dreams. Most of my couples live within the Logan, Redlands, Ipswich or Gold Coast area. Email provides a wonderful tool for your thoughts and I often receive emails in the middle of the night from a bride or groom who has just had a flash of genius they want to share with me.
Don't be afraid of your wedding vows for they are the most important part of your ceremony.
